Working for yourself doesn’t mean you get to do what you want. Not yet.

Some people don’t realize how spur of the moment our lives are. We don’t always get to do what we want. Friday afternoon 3 pm we packed a cooler and headed to Dunham’s to cash out on 2 kayaks we’ve been saving our money for and had our eyes on for almost a year now. I am talking about the absolute highlight of my summer so far. We got out stuff together, and headed for the river. On the way someone, called and needed assistance on a project we had been working on. A little more than defeated, we turned around and headed for home to help put out one of the many fires we usually tend to on a daily basis. When people hear the term “entrepreneur” they immediately assume when you work for yourself, you can do whatever you want with your time. Holy guacamole, let me just stress the truth about this assumed thought. Being an entrepreneur means devoting everything you have to your passion. It means not going out on weekends. It means not sleeping in, even on Saturdays. It means to always, always be thinking of taking the next step on you journey to success as an entrepreneur. It means dropping plans or changing them at the very last minute just to see a deal go through. It means to miss events because there might be a hope of a new connection or a new way to make headway in your business. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not easy to watch all of your friends party together on the weekends, or spend money, or go on vacations .The difference between you and them, you want so much more than what life is dealing you right now. This doesn’t mean you need to completely give up on a social life, without one, life would extra, extra lonely. It just means we have to constantly check ourselves and our goals to make sure the plans we have are bettering us for a brighter tomorrow.
